Sporting that perfect smile is very important these days. It doesn’t just improve your overall look and dental health, it helps boost your confidence and how you think of yourself as well.
Dentures are indeed useful particularly to those who suffer from tooth loss. They are false teeth that are meant to replace the teeth you have lost due to accident or bad dental behavior. Similar with other dental devices, dentures can be uncomfortable during your first few days of wearing it. The strange feeling of having it in your mouth is normal. You may experience difficulty of speaking and eating. Often times, chewing hot foods and drinking liquids can be harder.
Your dentist wants you to wear it often, however. This is to ensure dentures fit. Every time you see your dentist for dental emergencies, your mouth is expected to experience changes. This may require adjustments or even replacement. Nevertheless, remember that only your dentist can handle these adjustments.
Should your dentures move too much, your dentist may apply denture adhesive. Or if you are not comfortable wearing these portable dental devices, you may be recommended to have dental implants. Dental implants are more durable and aesthetically pleasing. They are permanent and can replace both your teeth and its roots. But since dental implants are way more advanced and sophisticated, they are more expensive compared to dentures.
Dentures have two common forms and types: complete and partial.
Complete dentures can be conventional or immediate. Immediate complete dentures are made right after removing your teeth and that the gum tissues are healed. Conventional complete dentures are accessible after 8-12 weeks of removing your teeth. They are expected to fit and ready for replacement in your mouth. Most patients prefer the conventional type as they are not easier to wear off, unlike immediate.
Partial dentures, on the contrary, are removable dental devices. It consists of replacement teeth attached to gum-colored plastic base that keeps your dentures in place because it has metal framework in it. Partial dentures usually are used when one or two natural teeth remain in the jaw – lower or upper. Dentists make use of a fixed bridge to replace the lost teeth in the form of crowns placed on or either side of your teeth. They are then attached to the artificial teeth. The so called bridge is cemented in place, filling up the spaces of the missing teeth. Partial dentures prevent teeth from changing or moving.
Since dentures can be exposed to unwanted bacteria and debris, they should be cleaned regularly. Cleaning your dentures avert you from getting teeth stains, bad breath or halitosis and swollen gums. Removing your dentures at night and placing them on a denture-cleansing liquid can also help clean such dental device.
As helpful as it seems, dentures are far from natural teeth. Protect your teeth at all cost to avoid dental problems which can result into wearing of dentures or implants. You can start with getting rid of bad oral habits.
